Anorexics, anorexigenics or appetite suppressants are substances (dietary supplements or drugs) that reduce the appetite and cause a person to eat less.

Appetite suppressants are drugs that reduce the desire to eat. They can be used in the treatment of obesity. Some appetite suppressants are only available with a prescription, while others are available over the counter. They contain a variety of active ingredients, and work in different ways.

The majority of appetite suppressants are stimulants. They are related to amphetamine or speed. Most of Diet pill like Anoretix has such stimulants.

Hoodia, on the other hand, is not a stimulant. It is believed to work by stimulating that portion of the brain which measures sugar intake. At present, there are no known side effects to the use of Hoodia. It certainly does not cause the same problems that led to the withdrawal of certain stimulant-based appetite suppressants.
